Youth Skills &Empowerment
Building livelihoods, one skill at a time.
Youth Skills &
Empowerment
Unemployment and underemployment among young people in Busia is not a problem of ambition — it is a problem of access. Young people here are eager to build futures, but too often lack the skills, networks, and starting capital to do so without support.
Our Youth Skills programme delivers practical, market-relevant vocational training alongside entrepreneurship mentorship and life skills education. We partner graduates with experienced mentors, help connect them to small seed grants, and follow up for six months post-graduation — because training without ongoing support is only half the job.
How We Do It
Vocational Training
Hands-on courses in tailoring, carpentry, mobile phone repair, motorcycle maintenance, hairdressing, and more — skills with immediate market demand in Busia and surrounding towns.
Entrepreneurship Mentorship
Connecting graduates with experienced business mentors, helping them write business plans, access microfinance, and navigate the realities of self-employment in the local economy.
Life Skills Education
Financial literacy, communication, leadership, and conflict resolution — the toolkit that makes technical skills stick and helps young people sustain and grow what they build.
Before this programme, I sold tomatoes to survive. Now I run my own tailoring business and I have two apprentices working with me. My family eats well. My children go to school. I did not expect my life to change this fast — but here we are.
